Cell phones in classrooms

Sometimes I have conversations with other parents, teachers or well-known people, about whether it is appropriate or not for children to have cell phones in the classrooms and my answer is that the cell phone is not the problem, that if I did not have the cell phone, the undisciplined child could interfere in any way in the class, for example, talking, drawing, looking through the windows, etc.

Then the problem is the cell phone or other possible element distracting element? or is it the level of control or the ability that the teacher could apply to keep his students focused on his class?
 
Cellphone is actually one of the distracting elements in class. However, it depends on how the teacher discipline the students and use his/her authority in class to make some rules with regards to cellphone usage. But whether cellphones are being used or not in class if you still do not get the students' attention to listen and participate then there will always be other elements that may distract them. So we really have to involve them and find other ways to enhance their attention span and means of learning.
 
The cellphone is an extra distraction for any child, but it could become a huge distraction if one student decides to use it to distract the others. Chaos could reign in the class and the best of the students including the teacher could lose focus.
In our schools students have to give their phones to someone notified by the school and the phone remains with that person until classes are over for that day. We have experienced lesser problems with this method. There is no unnecessary tension or distraction during class. The teacher is able to have a good amount of discipline and control during the sessions.
The purpose of a student's cellphones is for connectivity with parents and should be treated that way..
 
I think that using a cellphone in classroom is very distracting if the purpose of it is not good, for example if we will just used it for playing some games while we are attending classes then it would really be bad in the first place. But if we will used it like for example for researching some topics that we really don't know then it might really help us a lot from our studies and as well as to improve our learning. I really believe that it would only depend on our purpose to make things bad or good in the yes of of the public.
 
I'm very happy that someone wrote about this topic. I don't believe, for any circumstances, that cell phones should be allowed in the classroom. Allowing cell phones in class creates an unnecessary distraction, and discourages learning. Further, a teacher loses control over his or her class, making disapline more difficult.I remember, from my own experience in school, something like a cell phone would never be allowed in class. While we didn't have cell phones during my school years, there was a strict rule that anything that would distract from learning would not be allowed in class. I, and my classmates, received a well - rounded education, and learned essential skills to carry us later in life. We also learned about the world around us, and how we were effected by it through education in the sciences and history. Had we been allowed to have technologies such as cell phones in the classroom, we would have been severely disadvantaged after graduation.
 
Yes, because cell phones can be useful to students. As in the case of an emergency, a cell phone can be very useful to contact family members or the authorities. In the schools case, it would help in studying and researching alone. There is even an program in which students can bring their phone or tablet to school to use for educational purposes. They can also be used for studying and taking notes. I think cell phones would be good to study and take notes on different classes. It would save money from computers because everyone with a smartphone could just use his or her phone. They would also be good for emergencies, but they must be turned off during tests, or students will be punished.
 
I think that children should be allowed to bring phones with them so that their parents could call them and check on them if they are late home. However, I think that kids should not be allowed to use smartphones during classes. That can be a huge distraction and they may choose to play games instead of listening to their teachers.
 
I don't know that they're necessary, even in this day and age. I know when I was back at school, if there was any reason for a parent to need to contact a child in an emergency, they'd contact the school directly.

I think phones can be such a massive distraction in the classroom, and then there's also the question about cheating on tests - when you've got Google at your fingertips it can be pretty easy to do!
 
most teenagers these days can't read, write or add at middle school levels nor can they pull their face out of their electronic devices long enough to learn. Cell phones are a distraction in class.
 
If you asks me , I will suggest that mobile phones or cellphones should not be on classes hours because it is one of the most distractive thing on the class. Aside frome that , students can't focus on the class if Her or His mobile phone vibrates(they turn to silent mode in order not to see by the teacher) and the attention of them are on their mobile phones notifications. Espcially in the secondary schools where most of the students have a smartphone, they can't focus on classs because the are waiting for the reply of thier chatmates on messenger or snapchat.
 
Yeah phones are not the problem if a child is bright then he bright if a child is doll then he is doll and maybe should not use his cell phone in class since he cant keep up with multiple things but the rest should be give there phones since they can keep it so the class should be regulated and scan the doll and bright and then the rule should apply if the doll child grades improves then he should be allowed to use his cell phone in class that just the best way and not suffering all student at once
should students be allowed to use cell phones in school? Well yes kids should be allowed to have cellular devices in school. Many parents want to be informed if their kids will be coming home and that way with a cell phone you can and warn your mom that you will not be coming home because maybe you are going to a friends house or you have a game after school. I think that they can have a phone but they can't use it in class. In my opinion if students will use it for something good then they should be able to use cell phones in school.cell phones make it possible for students to stay in touch with family and friends. A student can call home and ask a family member to bring them a forgotten assignment or lunch money or to come pick them up if they are sick. Also, cell phones allow parents to keep track of their children's whereabouts before, during, and after school. And, of course, there's always the possibility of a student needing to contact a parent because of a dangerous situation. Thus, having a cell phone is like having a guardian angel. Students can also connect with friends, but not just because it's a fun thing to do; my teacher asks us to text or email our friends when they are absent to let them know what's going on in class and to inform them of any homework. When used responsibly, a cell phone can be an excellent communication tool.Geography and to keep track of my homework. My science teacher lets us use our computers to do research when we are doing group work or working on a project. For example, when we were studying weathering in chicago we did research on local jobs having to do with protecting the
Weather. Plus there are lots of great learning websites – including essay-writing websites – we can use to supplement the learning in class Cell phones are a quick and easy way to incorporate technology in the
Classroom. Cell phones should be allowed because they are useful to students. If a student does not ride the bus, he or she can call family members to pick them up to get a ride home. Cell phones can also be useful in school because they can allow students to look up things on the internet.If a student forgot his homework or calculator on the day of a calculus test, he could call his parents and ask them to bring it to school without causing a scene. In more serious emergencies, like a school threat or shooting, cell phones could help students connect with worried parents.

Bringing cellphones in school is not a problem as long as the student is not using it while the teacher is teaching inside the classroom..after class they are allowed to use their phone all they want.
 
For me it's not recommended to have phone inside the classrooms. It will not help the students using cellphone while teaching, they will not focus. Social media attracts them
 
Cellphones is the greatest distraction not only for the students but for all of us. Bringing cellphone in school is not a problem just like what others said. The problem is if the student use that cellphone during class hours. It will distract not only him but it can also distract others around him.
 
Cellphones in classrooms are very distracting to students but it can also be used as an educational tool and will help them in their studies. Well, of course it has its advantages and disadvantages but smartphones or any form of technology nowadays can be incorporated for the benefit of education in the classroom.

Many teachers in high school incorporate learning games and trivia to be played by students on their smartphones. Many high school and college teachers let students use their phones in class to check grades on mobile apps, complete an assignment, do research, access textbooks, or take pictures of slideshows.As a learning tool, smartphones provide a high level of engagement and interaction. Furthermore, modern technology simply provides a level of versatile and expansive education that is not otherwise accessible.

With the growth of technology in education over the past several years, many schools are taking advantage of it. As smartphone technology advances, it will continue to improve and benefit the educational system.
 
Using cellphone inside the classroom is a big no no for me! When the student is allowed to use cellphone I'm sure they will not listen to the teacher because they will always check on their phone from time to time to see if anyone is texting or message them.. and of course they cannot stop themselves from checking on their fb account.
 
I have read that in some schools it was prohibited the mobile phone use during school hours.I think this is not the best solution, because in most cases prohibiting mobile phones use makes them even more tempting for children.I think there are many benefits of allowing children to use their mobile phones in school, as there are many features of the mobile device that can be employed in their schoolwork.Using them the right way, mobile phones can become suitable learning tools for the classroom.
 
I don't support allowing children use cellphones in class as the distraction it poses cannot be overlooked. Students do a lot of things on their phones; they play games, chat with friends, watch videos, look up their celebrity crush, etc. Needless to say, doing any or all of those things is more interesting than listening to a teacher drone on about a subject. It is better to keep them from the temptation cell phones pose.
 
Cell phones are not the problem. Children's behavior is. But if the teacher is strict, I don't think that the children will use their phones during class. I think that every child should have a phone with him, in case for example: the child needs to call his parents urgently because of some health problem, or because the child forgot to bring some book to school, or to just be in contact with parents between the classes because of some other reason.
 
Taking in instructions is key here.If a child obeys both the teacher and the patent or guardian,use of cellphones during class wouldn't occur.Well behaved children are able to carry their cellphones to class everyday without causing trouble. I agree,cellphones aren't the issue,children are.
