Writing Poetry

Are there any posters on this forum who like to write poetry and if you do, what is it about writing poetry that you like the most?

Not exactly limited to poems, but I am fond of writings that rhyme with each other :) Unfortunately, I am terrible at making those myself and I do realized just how hard it can be to write like that! Which is why I always have the highest respect (and envy:p) for everyone that is able to come up with poems and writings that rhyme.

Yeah there is something about writings that rhyme that i fascinating.

I am not really much into writing poetry, but I am fond of reading poems, specially those ones written by Sylvia Plath, and Anne Sexton. I actually love confessional poetry. Very raw, and emotional.

It is about expressing the feelings that would stay inside otherwise. Sometimes this is the only way to say something sounding meaningful and meaningless at the same time. My primary language is not English although I study English language and literature. Sometimes I write in English but it is hard to think in different language. You can speak, translate, write but thinking is something else. You need some cultural knowledge and experience about certain language and country. Writing poetry came from nowhere. I just realized I can write something beautiful, whether it was rhyming or not. At firs I was aware it was BS. But I was working to find deeper emotion, I was seventeen back then. What did I know. 10 years later and several disappointments and my poems got much darker and more honest and less boyish. I actually have only one poem in English that I like and I also play guitar a bit so I also sing some of my poems with some simple chord progressions. The poem goes like this, just few verses.
' Who can I kill if all that I am is just a shivering shadow of a man,
who is to blame when a rock in my fist comes thundering back with a plan?'

Hey there! I do enjoy writing poetry, if indeed you can call my version of it poetry. I like to write on a free-flow manner where I just allow words to come to me as they are wont to do. Much of what comes out does seem like gibberish, but occasionally the result is a keeper, or in the least, something to expand upon when I'm feeling more organized with my thoughts.

I sometimes have my book club kids start their sessions by doing 5-10 minutes of this kind of non-stop word dump. At first, they were afraid to attempt this. It seemed the lack of direction or the fact that I did not have an expected outcome in mind had caused them some anxiety. I assured them that in this context they were safe to explore and need not fear my judgement of their efforts. I think, in the end, I'd learned that rigidity in teaching may play a huge role in stifling our kids creativity. Does this matter? I leave that for the individual to decide. But, I think gently helping students to address their fears in the academic setting is a good thing, and as it turns out, poetry may be a great vehicle in which to further explore this area.

So do I enjoy writing poetry? Yes! Haha!

I love writing in all its forms. I grew up writing letters, poems and even in my diary! Lol! So yes, writing poems is also one of my hobbies. I won't say they're as good as the average poems though. They are mostly just for my own consumption and I have never even once let anyone else look at them. I write them in my diary/journal so it's locked. Haha!

I think writing in itself is therapeutic for me. But writing poems really does get the creativity out of me. It takes a lot more time for me to write poems than articles or letters.

Poetry writing has a unique beauty unlike any genre of literary masterpieces. Novels and short stories tends to be lengthy due to plot formation, poetry on the other hand limit its words and is still able to transcend eloquent meaning. I personally write poetry and oftentimes post it in may social media accounts. Had submitted few poetry pieces for international contest, hopefully pinning to get accepted. The one I like most are poetry that talks about nature, mankind struggles and inspirational message about learning. Few people resort to writing poetry, it is due to the fact that it is not easy to do. It takes an artistic mind to create word that is symbolic, full of imagery and vivid, one that resonates life itself in every line. The used of complicated measurement like what Dante did in his Divine Comedy will have your neurons run dry if you're not a classical type of poet , unless of course, you prefer the easy way out, then you can opt for freestyle.

I love writing poetry. It is an escape from the mundane world into the world of beauty. Its where emotions meet fantasy and the two give birth to rhythm, music, word play and masterpieces. For me it is an expression of my soul. I write many forms of poetry, but I have come to love free form more than the others. This is a form of poetry where the emotions seem to break all boundaries and flow wildly and naturally. I find that poetry that is unrestrained and written in the spur of the moment is more forceful, I do edit it later but the passion and force of idea remain unchanged.
Romance and grief often give birth to the most sensitive and touching poetry. I write under different pseudonyms on different sites and have started a poetry blog quite recently.

I've been writing poetry since I was 13. Writing poetry is a way for me to express my feelings and turn them into words. Writing in general was my escape. It was the only means I used to cope with daily struggles. I was lucky enough to have a supportive professor by the time I was a senior because she helped me a lot to develop the passion I have for writing.
