Ways to Discover New Books

My fаvоritе wаy is tо tаlk tо friеnds аnd fаmily аnd rеаd stuff thаt thеy lоvеd оr thаt intriguеd thеm. Unfоrtunаtеly I rеаd mоrе thаn аnyоnе I knоw, sо I саn't rеly оn this оnе.
Nеxt, I spеnd а lоt оf timе brоwsing thе аudiblе bооklist (I rеаd аlmоst еxсlusivеly in аudiо) in аll thе gеnrеs I likе. I rеаd rеviеws, but nоt thе surfасе оf thеm. Thеrе аrе bооks I'vе rеаd spесifiсаlly bесаusе оf whаt kind оf соmplаints thеy gоt (i.е. if it's а bооk аbоut pоlitiсs I lооk аt hоw mеmbеrs оf bоth sidеs соmplаinеd. Thе соmplаints аrе sоmеtimеs vеry tеlling).
Lаstly, I will prеtty muсh аutоmаtiсаlly buy thе nеxt bооk by аuthоrs I likе, unlеss I'm disаppоintеd by оnе. Thеn I'm mоrе саrеful аbоut thе dесisiоn fоr thаt аuthоr in thе futurе (аlthоugh I dеfinitеly still соnsidеr thеir bооks еvеry timе а nеw оnе is rеlеаsеd).

I likе using thе librаry, bоth оfflinе аnd оnlinе. I'vе hаd grеаt rеsults by hеаding tо thе sесtiоn оf thе librаry thаt соntаins bооks I might bе intеrеstеd in аnd thеn brоwsing instеаd оf sеаrсhing. Vеry оftеn I run асrоss аuthоrs оr bооks I'vе nеvеr hеаrd оf but sоund intеrеsting, аnd сhесk thеm оut (in bоth sеnsеs оf thе wоrd).
Bеst thing аbоut thе librаry is thаt it's rеlаtivеly risk-frее: if yоu dоn't likе а bооk, thе mоst it соsts yоu is sоmе timе, аnd if yоu'd bоught it, yоu wоuld hаvе spеnt thаt аnywаy!

I love reading books and I usually go to local store to search for good ones. When library was nearby I used to be a regular there but that has changed and so I am stuck to local stores.

I am a self-proclaimed reader, I devour reading materials with a voracious but picky attitude. I started reading books when I was in Grade 3, wrote a story when I was in Grade 4 and created a story novel in way of scripts when I was in 8th grade until I was able to published my first book. I just don't only accept book assessment from other people, I assessed it myself. If there are other ways to discover new books, I usually browse through some website like Amazon, read the summarize plot and read reviews then look for available e-book format to get a better judgement. When inside a bookstore, I take time to read the first chapter, the middle and the last part to check for blending and language used consistency. Then, I get to sort out the best of them depending on my interest and reading preferences.

I usually discover new books through the Goodreads community. I'm also the admin of an online book club and my members will occasionally recommend a book that sounds interesting. If I am wanting a certain genre, like fantasy, then I will look up "best fantasy books" on google and see what lists pop up. I'm also subscribed to the email newsletters of several publishers/book websites and sometimes I see something I like in those emails. One time I even found a book through an ad on Facebook. Also, sometimes I might buy a book if it's on sale for a cheap price. It's hard to turn down a decent sounding book that's only 99 cents on Kindle!

I discoer new books through searching "new best-selling books of the year". I really want to know what are those and there is a reason why these books are best-selling.

1. Asking like minded friends.
2. Go on forums like this one.
3. Goodreads.com is a great platform for avid book readers, with great book recommendations.
4. Exploring the internet for books.

Bonus tip: When wanting to learn something new, remember to start with books that teach the basics.

For discovering new books, I always look for stories similar or has the same concept of what I really love to read. I am fond of reading fictional books which I think is the most flexible of all the genre. It lets me imagine things more and challenge my mind on what to think and how things would look like if they are real.

I tend to let one book lead me to others. For example; if I am reading a book I really enjoy I will look for other books by the same author, of course, but there are also the influences and contemporaries of that author to consider as well. Often there is an "About The Author" page that can tell you quite a bit, or simply look up the author and see what inspired them, who they may have hung around with, who they have influenced themselves. If you love an author you will probably also love the authors they did. And sometimes it is just the time and place the author was working from. I love the Beat Poets, they didn't all know each other well, but something was in the air back in the 50s and 60s in New York, Paris, and San Francisco. A lot of other books I have loved came out of the same "scene"

If I can find interviews or documentaries about authors I like I study those too. They inevitably start talking about the books they like and that have influenced them. YouTube is great for this.

Sometimes I take recommendations but that is not always reliable. If the person offering the recommendation can make an articulate case for why the book is great I will be more likely to check it out. I love my friends but some of them have terrible taste. They have to make their case for a book before I'll simply take their word for it.

Failing that I wander around in the library and just pick up anything that catches my eye. I will do this in book stores too, but only used bookstores, the big chain retailers have got some sort of marketing brainwash figured out and always seem to put the stuff I have no interest in but they want to sell into my hands.

For me I just like using the library, both offline and online. I've had great results by heading to the section of the library that contains books I might be interested in and then browsing instead of searching. Very often I run across authors or books I've never heard of but sound interesting, and check them out (in both senses of the word).
Best thing about the library is that it's relatively risk-free: if you don't like a book, the most it costs you is some time, and if you'd bought it, you would have spent that anyway! Visiting Book shops or Libraries during your free time and searching through books helps a lot, you are then able to find varieties of book collections of different authors.

so true. I collect books, but i have very few novels... I dont really need to own ones I've already read, and I don't want to spend the money on something I may not like... I have a few first editions, and books by novelists I love and want to read and found cheap... but mostly I buy reference books, art books, and oddities.

I do like to browse book stores because their collections are more eclectic. If I see something I'd like to check out but am unsure of, I go look for it at the library. I'm a pretty avid library patron. My local Public Library system has free e-books to download online too. I've even accessed this system while traveling. Checked out some beach reading while lying on the beach in Phuket!

Libraries rock. I used to want to be a librarian actually. Unfortunately somewhere in the early nineties they changed the requirements to work at the library and you need a degree in "Library Science" now. Used to be anyone willing and able was welcome to apply, and they managed to do a perfectly good job too. *sigh*. Sometimes I just think its all a scam to drum up more business for the universities.

For me, If you really are a book lover and want to know more where to get some unique books I think the great place to look at is the web especially forums like this. In there you can share your experiences as long as the other members and they can also share what books they have already read.

When I want to read a new book, I only do two things. First, I ask a friend for a recommendation. I have a highschool friend who is an avid fan of books and even attends book-reading events. Second, I go to a bookstore and look for top ten recommendations. The bookstore has a lot of top ten lists varying on different types. They have top ten most sold out books, top ten recommended books, top ten fictional books, and so on.

I usually read reviews on some books. Also if I like an author, I usually research his or her other books and try to read it. Sometimes, when I am lazy to scan for books to read, I just ask my friends for suggestions. Though in other days, I just lazily swipe through my library to discover books.

For me, the best way to discover new books is through the internet because you can find a lot of different kind of books in the internet especially the rare one's. I personally look for the books that i needed through the internet or sometimes i visit local bookstore and invest time to dig rare books.

Hi, it's been a long time since I'm back here. I a voracious yet picky reader. I am not also the type to read everything but I been to a lot of application nowadays that can be of help if you are a reader. Anybooks application offers plenty of novels that are pretty good. They have Robert Ludlum, Nora Roberts and a lot more for free reading.

I think you can find new books by going in bookstores, or even libraries and there are a lot of websites were they sell books and you can check people's comments.
