Using social media to aid in the reading and writing lesson

Some children are born readers, so to speak, because they easily learn how to read. Some children are also born writers for the same reason that they easily learn how to write. I have been thinking that if you introduce social media to the child then he will have the motivation to learn reading and writing. I know of a 6-year old child who is not even in 1st grade but he writes so well and reads so well because he has a Facebook account. The parents said that social media had given their child the strong motivation to learn reading and writing by himself.

This may be a great idea at first, but a problem arises in the long run. Social media is filled with stuff that a child is not ready to learn yet. We are also not aware of the things that might influence the child while using social media. There might be inappropriate ads that might pop up, or a child might see people fighting and using inappropriate language in social media and might get the wrong impression that it is okay to bash each other in social media since other people are doing it. I think it is better to use books to guide the child in reading and writing because you can control what is being read by the child. You can screen what are the possible information that might enter his or her mind.

I guess that using social media to motivate and influence our kids to learn to read and write is a good idea because children now are very susceptible to technology that we have for now and it would be a good input if we will use that technology to boost their skills and learning into certain things.
