Procedure
Short Introduction:
Parts of Speech is one of the basic but important topics that one has to know while learning the English Language. It contains the building blocks that on can join together in order to construct sentences that are understandable and grammatically correct. Understanding parts of speech helps a writer or speaker convey his or her message properly to the reader or receiver. In this activity, we are going to focus on the four parts of speech which are adjectives, adverbs, nouns, and verbs by sorting the given words to the category where they belong to.
Steps:
Prepare the materials you need.
Group the learners into four groups: adjectives, adverbs, nouns, verbs.
Give each student a popsicle stick.
Ask them to write an example of the category given to them on the popsicle stick using a marker (e.g. noun- table, adjective- beautiful, adverb- gracefully, verb- eating).
Once they are done, get all the popsicle sticks from the class and divide them into 4.
Give one set to each group and ask them to sort the words.
Allow each group to take turns going to the front to place their answer in the containers that stand for the different parts of speech.
*One alternative to this activity is that the teacher will be the one who will write sample words on the popsicle sticks. He or she will just ask the students to sort the given words.
