I have to agree with the respect for the slow learners that they should be given more attention. But my concern are the fast learners who will be put at a disadvantage with the slow pacing of the lesson. I guess the slow learners should be given extra time after classes to hasten their learning. What about giving them 15 minutes as a sort of make-up lessons for the day? That will be the sacrifice of the teacher.
The school should have intervention program to help slow learners . This could be in the form of remedial classes , one on one tutorial or consultation period with their subject teachers. They might be slow in academics but might be gifted with skills or other talents not yet unleashed. It is very important for the school to help these students to cope and teachers to be careful in labeling them based on their academic performance .
When I was at school, we unfortunately had separate classes to how smart kids were. What usually happened the ones who were not that smart or slow learners end up in a bottom set and the majority of them don't want to learn causing the minority to miss out on learning. Very unfortunate!
