My Art attempts

I don't know if I'm supposed to be putting up works here but..I saw a few do it so I'm hoping I wont be in trouble. These are stuff I did sometime back, self taught and I am still learning. I have some abstract works as well, I might put them up later if these are not deleted from the site. The one below is my first attempt at using 'dry pastels', it's actually a copy of an online picture I found.

I'd really appreciate any comments, criticism.
Thanks! :)

In an almost monochromatic scheme you managed to get a lot of depth into your work. It's lovely and startling in how bright it is! I love the silhouettes of the palms and the shaded framing around the picture. I like the balance. I think if you did one of these using all blues and pinks, it would also be gorgeous. For a first attempt at dry pastels, I'd say, you've done well.

Now, for the criticism. You knew it was coming, right? The picture, while being very nicely done, is something that has been done many times before. It's not too original, but you DID mention that it was a copy of something you'd seen somewhere else. This totally reminds me of a mural on my dentist's exam room wall. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you. I wish I was able to see something and reproduce it with such ease. The more I look at this, the more I can almost smell the salt air. I like it!

Thank you for sharing.

What a lovely scene and well done! A romantic feel to it and reminds me of end of day, relaxing outside and watching the sun set. I love doing copies of pictures I've seen, as it helps teach me different techniques. Do you have any others?

Good job with the colours and blending!
silhouettes tend to be a little gimicky or cliche....that said they are still effective! I think this is a great start...keep going :)

Thank you so much! :) To be honest, I was afraid the monochrome effect would end up ruining it, thankfully it turned out OK. I'm still rather shaky with handling dry pastels but hopefully I'll be getting better with each work. I'm doing most of my practice from pictures online, once my hands get a little more confident I'll start with my own ideas.

Thank you that means a lot! :) Yeah I do have others, I'm starting out with a lot of 'sunsets', since they happen to be my favorite part of the day. That apart I've been sketching a little too. I'm yet to try abstract concepts. Well, I'm an absolute beginner really, just started art on a whim after I saw John Atkinson Grimshaw's works! Let's see where it takes me. :P

I absolutely love your artwork. It's pretty simple, but there's a romantic feel to it, and it's utterly beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work! :)
