Memory improvement

People claim to have various strategies to improve their memories. Some have a scientific basis while others are just hype and overrated. Omega-3 fatty acids for example, are withou doubt potent in memory improvement especially in kids whose brains are developing. In my area, people subscribe to the notion that sweet potatoes eaten on the morning before the exam improve memory and cognition. Any memory improvement techniques you know of?

Improve the body, improve the mind. Regular exercise and a healthy diet is definitely vital for a good memory. Also, it's important to actually use your brain. N-back exercises, mental math, and even playing games like chess is great for keeping a sharp mind.

There are a some games that also seem to help with memory, crossword puzzles have shown to help along with sudoku. I think that having a balanced diet can also boost your memory and lots of water. Most people don't hydrate themselves enough.

I do love doing my daily crossword puzzle, and I would like to think that it helps in the memory department. That said, though, I am not sure anything can really challenge the high speed train coming my way in the name of genetics, when it comes to memory at least, but we will cross that river when we come to it. I actually do not get the paper anymore so I have to fish for the crosswords these days, but I am pretty good at knowing where to get one. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sure there must be some online somewhere. It's all a question of searching for them. Even if you have to print them out, there must be a site dedicated to them.

Truthfully I don't believe that there is a real scientific way to improve memory because even scientist can't tell you what makes you remember. We can make good guesses, and work at it through memory improvement games, and challenges, but there is no real scientific way to make people remember things.

The mind is just so complex and I don't think we will be breaking threw any mental barriers anytime soon. I remember things better when I challenge myself with games.

I have now embraced the notion that memory improvement can be done in a simple and cost free way through mental exercises. Its funny how the brain follows the theory of Larmack of use and disuse. The more you struggle to accommodate more information in your brain, the more it expands to accommodate it by developing new neural pathways. Practice practice makes perfect.
