Male Circumcision

Some women have definite preferences as to whether they like a circumcised penis or not. It's not a deal breaker for most women, though.
It's cleanliness more than anything else that will make a man appealing. And uncleanliness will make a man unappealing. An uncircumcised penis is a bit harder to keep clean.

Despite some objections, I support male circumcision -- particularly for those in sub-Saharan Africa. It may or may not save people from being infected by HIV (although some studies say it may have protective effects). The real fact is, developed nations don't supply as much aid to HIV stricken nations as they should. Any prevention strategy that is cost-effective is better than the help that developed nations are providing which isn't even a cure and the aid developed nations provide isn't sufficient to stop the millions of death each year.

From what I remember, circumcision was practiced as a covenant between God and Israel. When I say Israel, I'm basically saying the people of God. If you believe that we are part of Israel, If your are (Jewish/Christian), then you might have to follow circumcision...

In the early days of Christianity there were intense debates regarding circumcised (Jew) and non-circumcised (Gentile) followers of the way, which later on became what we now call Christianity. The debates involved asking whether Gentiles should be circumcised and be allowed into the fold. To cut it short, basically they decided that it was not a requirement of being a Christian. Thus, today Christians are ambivalent with regards to circumcision.

Finally, to answer your question... if I support circumcision... my answer again is yes, for humanitarian and religious purposes. Meaning, I don't support infant circumcision or the like, but support it if the decision is left to the person who wishes to be circumcised.

As for the "health reasons" you mentioned, as I said earlier in the thread it's a myth. The argument that circumcision has health benefits is equivalent to advocating a foot amputation to prevent a gangrenous foot from occurring. Sure, you'll never get gangrene on your foot if we cut it off, but there are simple methods of preventing gangrene without having to cut off your foot. Simply washing under the foreskin has all the benefits of circumcision, without the unnecessary genital mutilation.
I do not know exactly where I stand, as I feel that it is a social thing now among those living in the United States (I don't claim to know statistics on other countries). I did however learn a few interesting facts about male circumcision while taking a Human Sexuality course in college. First the parents CAN and SHOULD (in my opinion) insist that their child be given a topical numbing agent if they choose to have their newborn circumcised. The reason I bring this up, when it may seem a bit off topic, is because doctors do not frequently notify parents that this is an option, and prefer to just "get it over with" since it is a quick procedure. That is a living child, and if I am lucky enough to have a boy and make that decision my child WILL be receiving all of the benefits that modern medicine can offer in order to ease this pain. And my second point, which refers to Noel's post above, is that on a MINISCULE level circumcision does help with a lower risk for HIV. The only reason that this is even truly a legitimate point is in a country like Africa, where the AIDS epidemic is rampant, and the miniscule chance it gives can actually save hundreds of thousands of lives. So yes there are health benefits, however they are not something that normally applies in the United States where there are plenty of other ways to prevent these diseases, AND we have the ability to wash properly, where many other countries do not.

As a heterosexual female, Ive been on the receiving end of both circumcised and uncircumcised penises. I have to say I prefer the unadulterated version, although whether that's because of increased size or friction I don't know. I don't agree with religion making demands for bodily mutilation, whether it's performed on the child or the man, and unless there is a genuine medical reason for circumcision - perhaps if the foreskin does not retract properly - it's an outdated practice which has no place in the modern world.

Circumcision is a choice. If there are benefits of being circumcised, it is in pure sanitary benefits only. I don't see a reason why people should make this an issue. If you want to get circumcised then there is nothing wrong with that and same as through if you don't want your prepuce to be cut. Life is a choice!

Circumcision is a choice, but not always. I am what is called 'partially circumcised' because of phimosis. I had a surgery once I started being sexually active, so that I can lead a normal sexual life.

Therefore, yes, I support male circumcision but that's due to my own experiences. Everyone should have a personal choice, or with the help of relatives and family, whether to get circumcised.
