Easy approach for teaching kids to write paragraphs

My kids were struggling with having to write paragraph responses for homework. They were unsure how to get started, how many sentences made up a paragraph, etc.

I started using the 5 sentence method with them and it has made a huge difference. Here is the basic process:

1st sentence - Introduction/Subject of the paragraph
2nd, 3rd, and 4th sentences - Body/Describe or report facts on the subject
5th sentence - Conclusion/Summary of the paragraph
 
An additional step could also be to encourage them to map out major ideas and support in the form of bullet points, then grouping them by necessity and similarity.
 
I always found it important to remember that easy format. It helped me most of the way in elementary school. I just do not use it right now since I am not in school but I could go to writing articles to help jog my memory.
