All Ages Diluted art?

Everything in the contemporary world, it seems will not remain untouched by the digital revolution juggernaut. For good measure, modern art is now increasingly digitized. Graphic art and design is all the rage. Though images and designs may be catchy and of high resolution, some art connoisseurs object that art has been diluted. Pieces of digitally generated art are regarded as having low intrinsic and sentimental value.

Interesting thought. Do I believe that we are diluting the value of art by putting pictures of previously unavailable articles online? No. In fact, I think humans have come to appreciate art in a different way. We are able to get inspired through media more easily.

Actually... huh. Now that I think about it a little further, maybe art has been diluted. Here's how I see it: we have spread 'art' far and wide, and now it all looks the same. There are no movements going on (unless you count Banksy's art). We no longer have realists or cubists. We no longer see illustrious artworks of daily life or of normal people -- because our lives have been depersonalized. When did we last have a modern day Van Gogh or a reincarnation of Da Vinci?

Hmmm... Even films are being digitised and remastered. I don't know if all artworks are for sure diluted but I could see your point. When you update or digitise an artwork, it's like your taking away what makes it unique. For instance, with films, although digitally remastering them makes them more clear and crisp, you're taking away the vintage aspect of it. Because for me, that's what makes older films good, the aspect of it being vintage.

And with artworks, it's the same. You need to show exactly how it was done for people to realise that it took real talent and effort for these artists to bring their art to life. When you digitally master it, you take away the artist's persona in it. Some aspects are lost and most of its flaws are removed. As we all know, the flaws make up the part of the art itself.

Of course, art like ancient buildings or even churches need somer restoration at one point. Maybe a storm has ruined or destroyed them. In those cases, restoring them is the only solution for saving them.
