But if you mean preparing notes for a presentation, my favorite method is called Mind-Mapping.

Everything starts off as an outline, or even a manuscript. Then afterwards I turn it into a mind-map. I use mind-mapping as a memorization technique. If I lose my thought, I can find my place on the mind map instantly, whereas if I try to speak from an outline and lose my though, I will look down at the outline and be completely lost, lol.
