The problem of the cause of gravity caused considerable controversy after Newton proposed his Law of Universal Gravitation. The reason for this controversy might not be obvious to us of the Twentieth and Twenty First Centuries who take the fact of Gravity for granted (and of course Einstein's description of gravitation in geometrodynamic terms affords us an alternative approach to conceptualizing the phenomenon unavailable to Eighteenth Century thinkers).
