Do you believe or feel comfortable with the idea that some teachers are being licensed to keep a gun on them in the schools?

I'm of two minds on this. I believe that schools that have issues should keep off duty police officers on the campus to protect the students, but then again, I have seen reports of where students are mistreated by them. The idea of teachers having guns is both scary and a good idea at the same time. We want our kids safe and with the school shootings that have been happening, the idea of a teacher being able to protect the kids because they have a weapon is good. However, whats to say that teacher will not snap and become the shooter?

What are your thoughts on this?

Teachers are responsible individuals and they have the task of protecting the children within their midst. The prime focus of teachers should be the teaching and learning of individuals and that is already a task that will have teachers having their hands full as it is presently. Special individuals must be in place to take on the major security aspects of concerns on school campuses and allow teachers to do their jobs without much distractions.

It is a double edged sword. I can see the logic behind it, as teachers would then have the power to protect not only the children but themselves too. On the other side of the coin, I believe it may turn tragic if the teacher flips and turns on the very children they're meant to protect. We hear of many disgruntled teachers out there, with some even suffering nervous breakdowns given the pressures of being a teacher today. One of them being teachers having to deal with unruly, hard to control children, some of whom have been caught with all sorts of weapons on school grounds. Some children have been known to threaten or even attack teachers! So I don't know, it could be a recipe for disaster.

I absolutely would not feel comfortable if I was in a classroom and my teacher had a gun on them. I don't care if it's for their protection, or even if they claim that it is for the protection of the students as well. What happens if it accidentally goes off in the middle of class? Or goodness forbid one of the students gets their hands on it? If a student accidentally sees that gun they could freak out! I would freak out if this happened to me! When I'm a teacher I will absolutely NOT be carrying a gun or any sort of weapon with me in the school!
