Starting websites?

Just curious how many of you have ever started a website, and how many of you make an actual income by doing it....

I'm asking because I'm about to start my own. :D

I have started quite a few websites before actually. They always ended up dying because I didn't have the time to maintain them. I was never able to win anything from them though.
If you actually decide to go ahead and try that, I wish you good luck and I hope you succeed at it.

Lame. Thankfully I have nothing BUT time to devote to it... And luckily, it won't be a very labor intensive website. I won't need to do a whole lot of moderation or anything of the sort. It'll be running on autopilot basically :D

I own plenty of websites and make a pretty decent income off them.

I would suggest you really find a good niche to tap into. If there's a site that's already out there and popular. Don't copy it. Unique helps get traffic easier. An easy to remeber URL is also very helpfull. Don't settle and make it amazing.

Good'luck.

I have tried it before, and yes, there is some income to be gained in it.

The main thing I would advise is an easy to remember URL. Make sure you get listed with some good search engines, etc, and above all promote yourself. Put your URL in your profile at various social networking sites, etc. Most people are curious, and will check it out, and all it takes, sometimes, is one curious click to start the ball rolling!!
Good luck!

I have opened up two different websites before now and one of them was a gaming website mainly focused around dota, I only ever managed to get about 40 or so members to signup. I did have google ads on the site and I actually made an alright income from it considering the amount of traffic I had. I made something like £2-3 a day.

Janus, the thing with the websites is to get them to be profitable either through ads or through associate selling(products) , and finding a good niche that people search for:) And i do them all myself, minus graphics that i outsource since i suck at them

Wow, people were already discussing about building their own website back in 2011. I created my first self hosted website in 2015 and I have been making money form my web site since 2017.

Before you decide to start a website, it is very important for you to make sure that you start something that you have passion in so that when the journey gets tough, your passion is going to keep you pushing on things until you achieve your goals towards the website.
