All Ages Does Historical Fiction Have A Place in History Curriculum?

I have often considered some of the finer works of literature and film in the genre of "Historical Fiction" to be wonderful resources for imparting a more personalized and visceral feeling for specific periods, personalities, and events being studied in history classes. I am speaking of the more well done examples, and I realize there should be some caveats given to the class re; poetic license etc... but some of the books and movies I read merely for pleasure on my own time... they are really so well researched, and well composed... I find myself paused in admiration, thinking; "my kids should really see this. they get it so right"

I
have seen many a documentary film shown to classes, and there are plenty of entertaining straight history texts aimed at the "general audience" but never encountered using accurate well done historical fictions to "flesh out" the eras in question.
