Does Gaming Kill?

Hello,

Do you think that gaming is causing more violence? More and more violent games are been sold now and some like grand theft auto really do advertise violence. Do you think gaming is killing? If you do can you think of a way to stop it? I myself play games like that but I do think that it does encourage violence to some people. They want to be like the game character so they start fighting and so on. One way to stop it a bit would be to make a violent game have a notice at the start telling them to leave the actions in the game, in the game and show what happens if they don't leave it in the game(prison). So what is your verdict?

Thanks.

I dont think you will find a normally sane person playing manhunt one day and then get bored at night snd decide to kill some one. We live in a blame society where if any thing wrong happens we have to have review it, analyse it and find some thing to blame. Stupid really, I mean are more people joining the army because of call of duty?

Peace

There are some cases when people who played games did kill but i don't really think that because really its up to the parents and their friends whether or not to make them continue because they can tell them to stop they can tell them the right way and if that dosn't happens its the mind of whoever is playing to tell them between the reality and just pixels.

video games only promote violence when you let them take you over. ive been playing video games for 13 yrs and i have never ever got an idea of pulling a stunt like ones on a game. in fact video games help me control my anger. when i get mad i sit down and play a game and shoot some people and then it relieves stress.

I personally think that all of it depends on the person playing the games. I have been playing since I was in young yet now , none of the violence I have seen on computer games have affected my life.In the end, its always up to the individual if he/she wants to get influenced by these games.

Alls the gaming does is gives people another way to get out of life's problems rather then dealing with them. People use gaming as an addiction, no better then smoking crack, snorting coke, etc. Its the peoples choices that lead them to become addicted, which in turn causes them to react in ways such as murder.

Playing games does not kill, unless you don't spend time to actually eat and go to the bathroom. ;)

Though, it does promote an anti-social attitude when you just focus on playing a video game, instead of going outside and having fun with pals.

Games aside, I worked briefly for a large police department in the U.S. Throughout this time, I became pretty accustomed to seeing acts of violence, stab/gunshot victims, and homicide victims. My encounters may have desensitized me, but they certainly did not prompt me to become a violent person. Thus, even outside the gaming world, I do not think that witnessing violence necessitates a violent response.

Well, it encourages STUPID people to commit crime, that's for sure. Does anybody remember that 8 year old that stole his grandmothers car a while back? All because of GTA. Heh. Still, it's not the kids fault. It's his parents fault for not raising the damn boy to understand that stealing a car is WRONG, and that you'll be sent to prison and violated in ways you don't want to think about. xD

Technology definitely has an affect on people now, I think only to younger kids. It is obviously very unhealthy, and for younger kids, yes it could easily cause them to replicate what they see in movies/games/tv. That is one of the reasons for games to be rated to 17+,etc. I'm sure everyone has heard of a child trying to do something like a show/movie/game. Once you become mature, you have more common sense and knowledge to know that it is fake, and you get in trouble for replicating things you see.

When I am playing a game (FPS, mmorpg) and there's huge lag or the server disconnects, THEN I get angry and sometimes even little violent if I was in middle of some important game event. So I think games can cause violence.

There is absolutely NO connection with violence in games and people being violent in real life. Admittely it could give MORE VIOLENT ideas (different ways they can be violent) but that is it. It is exactly the same with violence on the tv, in movies etc. How violent a child is has nothing to do with violence they see, it is how they were raised and the environment they live in and the friends they hang around with. Ofcourse another factor can be mental stability but that is a whole other issue.

It's the same thing how people blame rap for violence. There's a lot of violence in this world. I dont think games should be the only reason to be blamed for the problem. I think its just people's problems and the childhood they had.

gaming does not kill you, in fact gaming is very good for your mental health as well as cognitive functions. Gaming improves your concentration. However, the main thing is playing in moderation. If you play games, it helps, if you let games play on you, you will be dead.

Personally, I would never blame gaming for act of violence because human beings are what they are irrespective of video games. It is mostly people who don't really appreciate video gaming that makes up so many excuses to blame video games for act of violence which video games can not be linked to.
