Conservatism Vs. Libertarianism

Its also interesting that you chose libertarianism, as opposed to liberalism. I'd be interested in the purpose behind that choice.
 
I think each of these theoretical positions have things to offer. I feel more inclined to libertarianism. Anyway, do not know what it means in the place where you live. In my country, conservatism has no good reputation, and that is why all we usually get in front of him. It is an almost natural choice. However, regardless of any philosophical or political discussion, I also make the same choice for the development of my daily life, always looking forward and evolve in the best sense possible.
 
I'm curious as to whether you meant libertarianism or liberalism. They aren't the same thing.

Conservatism and libertarianism also aren't really on the same scale. Between liberalism and conservatism I side with a balance of both, which is a key point of libertarianism. Both liberalism and conservatisim have massive flaws when you employ only one or the other. They do work together but you have to be willing to compromise and realize that your ideal image for the country is not the ideal country for everyone else necessarily.

That is the biggest issue I have with american conservationism. They believe that if our country became geared towards accommodating christianity more than it already does then that would help resolve many issues even though there's no basis for that claim. All it would bring is civil holy war since there is really no such thing as a united christian religion. Conservatives reject all who think or act different than themselves and that ignorance is their biggest downfall.
 
I don't see a whole lot of difference between Libertarianism and Conservativism in America. Or as the old saying goes, "libertarians are just republicans who want to smoke pot". This election in particular, Liberterianism is becoming more of a Plan B for disenfranchised Republicans who are embarrassed about voting for Bush last election and are trying to distance themselves from that disaster and still vote a conservative in. I don't take issues such as gay rights lightly (I'm gay myself btw), and don't feel that my libertarian and republican friends fully understand how insulting it is when they say on one hand that they're gay friendly, then de prioritize it and go vote for someone like Bush or support Ron Paul.

Also, I'm very put off by how Libertarians court racist and homophobic voters - it's completely hypocritical. I don't see Libertarians as civil rights supporters - they claim they care then put it on the back burner when its time for votes.

That isn't necessarily true. Libertarians have many conservative traits, but they also have some ideologies that completely disqualify them from being considered true conservatives.

Also, how is supporting Ron Paul somehow hypocritical for someone who is pro-gay rights? Ron Paul believes in liberty and equality for all citizens.

If you're going to do any research on a candidate, you should at least not get your facts from a site that is clearly biased and doesn't even list any sources on most of those supposed facts. This is a blog written by an immature liberal with an internet connection and a computer, not an editorial to be taken seriously.

And that's beside the fact that I agree with half the stuff on the list. Ron Paul is a radical, and our country isn't going to fix itself by continuing to do things by the book.

He avoids passing any federal laws that many people won't be happy with. Our country was designed to function on a state by state basis, with each state deciding it's own laws. Unfortunately that means that some states are going to decided to ban gay marriage. If a citizen didn't like the laws in his state, he could go live in another one. Passing federal laws undermines that. This is not even close to the same thing as being homophobic.
